Could your body be signaling that something needs attention?
Many health problems begin with symptoms that seem minor or easy to explain away. Most digestive symptoms are caused by conditions that are not cancer, but persistent or unusual changes should still be evaluated—especially when they involve bowel habits, unexplained weight loss, ongoing fatigue, or abdominal discomfort.
Colorectal cancer affects the colon or rectum and is one of the most common cancers worldwide. When detected early, it is often easier to treat. Knowing the possible warning signs and staying up to date with recommended screening can therefore play an important role in protecting your health.
1. Changes in Your Bowel Habits
A noticeable and persistent change in bowel movements can be a warning sign that deserves medical attention.
- Stools becoming unusually narrow
- New constipation or diarrhea
- Blood in the stool
- A feeling that you still need to have a bowel movement after going
- Difficulty completely emptying your bowels
These symptoms do not automatically mean colon cancer. Hemorrhoids, constipation, infections, irritable bowel syndrome, and other digestive conditions can cause similar changes.
However, if a bowel change continues or repeatedly returns, don’t simply assume it will go away on its own.
